Baltic Business Quarter
Gateshead's premier office location covers 19 hectares, south of Gateshead Quays and Newcastle City Centre. The site is close to Gateshead's town centre, which has great local connections via the bus and Metro. It's also close to the exciting new leisure development on Gateshead Quays. This provides an exciting opportunity for a unique, dynamic and vibrant business environment.
The area's priority is business use, but it would lend itself to a wide range of town centre uses. This includes leisure, education, housing, tourism, major retail and recreational purposes. Over the next two years, the area will see two significant new developments led by the council.
In February 2017, Gateshead Council acquired the Chalk Hill building. This is set to become PROTO: The Emerging Technology Centre, which will open in March 2018. The 2,700m² building will provide work space designed for digital technology companies. It will be first of its type in the UK and give access to the latest research and development facilities.
As well as this, the council will begin an exciting new scheme on the Baltic Business Quarter site next year. The 5,500m² high specification office development is designed with growing businesses in mind. These companies who could occupy half, whole or many floors.
Baltic Business Quarter is home to Gateshead Technology Park, which combines business and academia. While the District Energy Centre provides occupants with low-cost heat and power.
